Rings have long been regarded as a gift and token that symbolize the emotional bond between people.
The gimmel ring, whose name derives from the Latin word gemellus meaning twin, was very fashionable in the 16th and 17th centuries. A gimmel ring typically has two or three hoops that can be stacked together, becoming one complete ring.
The posy rings popular in the 17th century are golden rings with French, Latin, or English inscriptions on the outside or inside of the ring. The content was usually excerpts from poetry or intimate text.
Inspired by both the gimmel ring and the posy ring, this collection reflects on a delicate and intimate way of expressing sentiments and pays tribute to a time when poems were written on rings.
